The name of Hans Otte was first introduced to Portugal on the stage at Culturgest, through the hands of Joana Gama, in 2020. The Book of Sounds gave rise to what would be a plan, implemented together with Ingo Ahmels, to disseminate the work of the German composer. With the pandemic losing force, here finally is the launch of Sound of Sounds, an event intended to reveal the multiple arts of Otte, in concerts, exhibitions and conversations. In a concert specially designed for our auditorium, we host a very special moment, with a repertoire by Hans Otte and John Cage, performed by Joana Gama and Margaret Leng Tan, this latter figure being a major reference in the history of the piano and one of the greatest interpreters of the American composer. East:West was idealised and supervised by Ahmels, in tribute to Hans Otte, for whom he worked as an assistant in the final phase of his career. This "concert for two pianos and prepared concert hall“ does definetely not emphasize distance between pianos, music, philosophy and reception. The deeply reflected setup brings the whole world of piano sounds together in a unique way offering a physically different, unexspected sound experience in a common »bath in the ocean of sound of sounds«, as Ahmels points it.
