After more than 20 years, Carlos Bica still works with his trio Azul and many other musicians, yet currently he is exploring other musical possibilities, as, for example, in his work with German saxophonist Daniel Erdmann and the DJ Illvibe. Erdmann has developed a style that brings new perspectives to jazz without dropping its traditions altogether, while Illvibe brings hip-hop and electronic music to the domain of improvisation. This combination continues to display the lyrical (or “romantic”) feel that we associate with Carlos Bica, while also demonstrating his ability to reinvent himself.
