The Bride and the Good Night Cinderella

“... the scope and scale of the piece is astonishing, dragging us through hell and out the other side without ever being gratuitous or graphic in its presentation. Perhaps it is the work’s proximity to death, the very audacity and risk of the thing that creates such a supreme sense of vitality.” The Guardian

In A Noiva e o Boa Noite Cinderela (The Bride and the Good Night Cinderella), Brazilian director, actress, and playwright Carolina Bianchi addresses stories of femicide, from the 1990s to the present day, crossing them with reports of extreme body-art experiences. One particular case stands out with brutal vehemence: that of the Italian artist Pippa Bacca, raped and murdered during her Brides on Tour performance, in 2008. In the second part of the show, the focus turns to the terrifying series of murders of women in the Mexican city of Juárez, which is reported in the book 2666, by Roberto Bolaño.

A Noiva e o Boa Noite Cinderela is a disconcerting play whose title derives from the name of a drug used to perpetrate acts of sexual violence. Bianchi provokes a true confrontation with a hidden world of violence and death.
