Curated by: Uma Certa Falta de Coerência
Uma Certa Falta de Coerência (A Certain Lack of Coherence) is an exhibition project founded in Porto in 2008, by artists André Sousa and Mauro Cerqueira. Occupying a vacant ground floor on Rua dos Caldeireiros, in the historic centre of the city, the project challenges Portuguese and foreign artists to occupy, with new works, the sequence of narrow and degraded rooms that the project has maintained in this state since the beginning. Without commercial purposes, nor financing, nor legal status, A Certain Lack of Coherence is a testing ground for production policies and specific forms of understanding, as a starting point of the exercise of survival in adverse conditions and subject to institutional oppression.
For the seventh edition of the Território cycle, works by Babi Badalov, Jac Leirner, Stephan Dillemuth, and interferences in space by A Certain Lack of Coherence come together. “What else? One more thing: the painter Serov ruined his watch. The watch worked fine, but he — wham! — ruined it. Anything else? Well, that’s all.”
