The video a cut through the archive of destruction is part of the Educational Service of the archive of destruction, and consists of collage and editing of diverse materials which can be found in its collection. Through subjective associative lines, it performs a cut, in the geological sense, through some of the main ideas contained in the archive.
The video has been presented as part of installations of the archive of destruction and, in a way similar to the archive, it develops in a process of continuous change and re-editing, never having the same cut of the video been presented twice.

About Pedro Lagoa
Pedro Lagoa is a visual artist whose work has been mainly developed around concepts of destruction. Exploring the potential that the destructive act has to constitute itself as an expression of refusal and a critical tool that operates transversally to different temporalities, his practice comprises a diversity of media, being often presented in the form of installation, publication or video. His work has been exhibited internationally, including: Art Polygon, Gwangju (2018); Gasworks, London (2014); Museu de Serralves, Porto (2014); Cabaret Voltaire, Zurich (2013); Nam June Paik Art Centre, Gyeonggi-do (2010); Portikus, Frankfurt (2007).
Sobre arquivo de destruição
"O tópico da destruição presta-se a questões éticas particularmente sensíveis. O arquivo lida com esta inevitabilidade da única forma possível: trabalhando o volume crescente de existências que o integram de modo a que entre elas se construa um campo isento do mais ínfimo sinal de moralismo. Isso implica, por um lado, protegê-las de tudo o que lhes possa apor um juízo ou atribuir-lhes um valor e, por outro, consagrar-lhes condições de apresentação que possibilitem que no intervalo entre elas se abra espaço para a subjetividade do espectador – o mesmo espaço de liberdade e extrapolação onde se funda o verdadeiro sentido desta obra.
Comissariado pela Culturgest, este projeto faz parte de um conjunto de iniciativas que procuram responder ao contexto imposto pela Covid-19. A pandemia trouxe-nos uma imagem de destruição bastante distinta daquela a que nos habituámos. Esta não é uma destruição espetacular nem parece acontecer em tempo real, mas antes invisível e sorrateira: instala-se sem dar sinal e os seus danos são diferidos. Ao mesmo tempo, as medidas de controle desta pandemia parecem ameaçar, elas mesmas, destruir disposições e valores que dávamos por garantidos. O mundo sairá da pandemia necessariamente diferente de quando entrou. Lidar com essa diferença e construir sobre os seus escombros será uma tarefa tão mais lúcida quanto mais clara se nos afigurarem a mecânica e a ambivalência da destruição."
