Guided tour with Joe Scanlan
Guided tour with Joe Scanlan
In addition to presenting the premiere of Joe Scanlan’s Expanded Atlas, the exhibition offers the public the opportunity to flip through a significant number of facsimiles from the Broodthaers Society archive. These materials are divided between facsimiles that other artists, galleries, and museums produced based on Marcel Broodthaers' original works, and others that he himself conceived based on his work or on the work of artists such as Stephane Mallarmé or Charles Baudelaire.
The transposition or reformulation of existing material is a recurring theme in both Broodthaers' and Scanlan's work. On Sunday, March 16, Joe Scanlan will give a guided tour of the exhibition, discussing themes such as institutions-as-artworks, appropriation, history, post-media specificity, and expanded definitions of the term facsimile.
