La Ribot & Dançando com a Diferença
Sometimes, the most unexpected encounters are transformed into exceptional moments. This is what happens on the happy island created by choreographer La Ribot and filmmaker Raquel Freire, together with the dancers of the inclusive dance company Dançando com a Diferença: “Imagine a territory cut off from the world, with its own rules, where each person’s difference is the element that binds them together and which defines the way that they live together as a community. In this place, the constitution of what defines us as people is being protected from judgements based on comparison” (La Ribot).
Created in 2001 in Madeira, Dançando com a Diferença has established its own special reputation by disseminating the concept of inclusive dance and has been a pioneer in promoting collaborations between people both with and without disabilities. Under the artistic direction of Henrique Amoedo, the group presented works by choreographers such as Paulo Ribeiro, Rui Horta, Clara Andermatt, Rui Lopes Graça and Tânia Carvalho.
The works of La Ribot are characterized by the convergence of contemporary dance with performance, visual arts and video.
