Inter-Munthu: A Life in Regards To
Inter-Munthu: A Life in Regards To
In our history, there are words that were not heard. This is the case of the word Munthu, which comes from the African Bantu languages. It means person, or rather, subject of history and knowledge. In this conference, we enter philosophy through a sister word: Inter-munthu, forged by the Mozambican philosopher José Castiano. Inter-munthu is a philosophical category that expresses the rich multiple and intersecting fabric of institutions, languages, and imaginaries that creates the density of experience and the cultural, technical, social, and ecological world of the African experience. With Inter-Munthu, Castiano refers to "a life in relationship". It is by considering this life in a relationship that we will look at the ethical, philosophical implications that the Inter-munthu perspective can bring us.
José Castiano is a philosopher and professor of the Chair of African Philosophy, at the Pedagogical University of Maputo, and has several published works linked to the area of Philosophy and Education, among them, Inter-munthu: In Search of the Subject of Reconciliation (Ed. Fundza, Maputo, 2023).
