In 1989, after the fall of the Soviet Union, Daria, the head of the Even clan, decided to leave her village and return to live in the forest with her five children. Travelling through the deep forests of Kamchatka, Mike Magidson and Nastassja Martin meet her. Through an intimate cinematic experience of their daily life, they reveal the extraordinary destiny of this family who found an answer to the collapse of a political system, reviving their animistic connections with natural beings and elements.
The film tells the story of a woman’s struggle to give her family a better, more stable life, introducing them to the world that her ancestors were forced to abandon. An intimate journey into the heart of one of the most remote forests on the planet. Faced with the current historical moment, in which humanity’s relationship with the environment has entered a deep crisis, Tvaïan invites us to contemplate the different possibilities of reconciliation with nature.
