Mediações Modernas (Modern Mediations) is a research programme, developed by Lisbon Nova University’s Institute of Contemporary History, which examines how artistic production can influence the way in which History is constructed and the relationship between these two disciplines. At Culturgest, the project challenges historians to discuss this theme, based on the exhibitions presented in its galleries.
António Pedro Pita e Luís Trindade talk about the relationship between painting and literature, clearly evident in the series Cadernos de Escritores (Writers’ Notebooks), developed by Álvaro Lapa between 1976 and 2005. The exhibition Lendo Resolve-se: Álvaro Lapa e a Literatura serves as a pretext for us to rethink the historical nature of a work of art and the way in which artistic creation can act as a vehicle for historical knowledge.
Pedro Félix e Luís Trindade explores the historicity of sound, as well as the role that the intangible plays in the way we think about the past, under the scoop of The Invisible Exhibition: in what ways can “the narrativity and transversality between the auditory field and the visual field” be related with time, which is what historians traditionally work with?
