Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos & Peter Evans
Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos & Peter Evans
In construction geometry, a triangle is a stable and resistant shape. The number three hides within itself a kind of balance, as obvious as it is magical. If everything had already seemed perfect when we welcomed Orquestra Jazz Matosinhos with Peter Evans in 2019, now they return to Culturgest bringing Miles Davis, the third vertex of this mind-blowing project that brings back the centenary celebrations of one of the most revolutionary figures in the history of jazz. In the scores we find Porgy and Bess and Miles Ahead, from 1959 and 1957, respectively, two out-of-time works — about how the concept of a jazz big band was recovered, and how the melody was rescued for improvisation — but which have affected us to this day, and for eternity, in the history of music, inside and outside of jazz. And there’s no one better than the extraordinary trumpeter Peter Evans to make us feel that Miles' indomitable spirit still lives today, with the rest of Miles Davis and Gil Evans' boldness being divided between one of the bravest collectives of musicians in our jazz scene and the leadership of the dashing Pedro Guedes. Add to this illuminated music the light of the late afternoon of a summer day in the garden.
