OWEN PALLETT / THE HIDDEN CAMERAS
OWEN PALLETT / THE HIDDEN CAMERAS
Joining The Hidden Cameras in 2001 Owen Pallett played in the first two albums of Joel Gibb’s communitarian band, then causing a stir mainly in, but not limited to, the Toronto queer music scene. Twenty years later, a lot has changed, and Gibb – now living in Berlin – wants to celebrate The Smell of Our Own turning twenty come spring of 2023, and also point the way to what comes next by showing us the new electronic inklings shaping a new album set for release in 2024. For the first time Gibb will go solo, though not without the best plan B he could come up with: he brought along Owen Pallett, who takes the occasion to celebrate the reissue of his first two solo albums, released under the moniker of Final Fantasy.
In theory they announce two separate concerts, but we know neither believe the separation will stand. Not surprisingly, that may have been the secret deal between Gibb and Pallett when they planned their dual return to the stage: to bring together their musical affinity and a friendship that defies time and distance.
