Jérôme Bel
Jérôme Bel
Working with excerpts from six of his most relevant shows, Jérôme Bel casts a subjective eye on his previous works through a twofold gesture of compilation and assemblage of filmed images. Bel picks twenty scenes and arranges them chronologically, in order to re-construct the development of his thinking about dance. Rétrospective takes to the foreground some of Jérôme Bel’s central preoccupations around language, body, culture, power and vulnerability, focusing on the connection between dance and politics. It uncovers recurring themes in the choreographer’s work, such as the desire for emancipation, the active forces of the group and the deconstruction of social identities. After the film, there will be a conversation with Jérôme Bel.
