Noise

Sofia Dias & Vítor Roriz are a duo of artists who have been collaborating since 2006. The hybrid nature of their research, combined with a desire for experimentation, led this duo to create several shows, soundtracks, videos, podcasts, and installations, crossing different contexts and blurring boundaries between artistic areas. In 2023 and 2024, they are Resident Artists at the Champalimaud Foundation, as part of the Bridges to the Unknown initiative, where they develop interdisciplinary research processes, in synergy with researchers from the Champalimaud Center for the Unknown.

It was during this residency that the topic of noise emerged, a concept that in the field of neuroscience has acquired an aura of mystery due to its omnipresence in neural functioning and difficulty in explaining it. Noise represents nothingness, the irrelevant, what disturbs, and pollutes, as well as the flow of significant information that we (still) cannot grasp.
