The Floor is Lava!, the title suggested by Sara Santos for this exhibition, emerged like a breath during the conversations we had about urban peripheries, and specifically about the urban periphery of Lisbon, which is particularly dear to us. We found many echoes and continuities between Sara Santos' work and the audiovisual works by both amateur and professional directors, such as João Pereira (a.k.a. Tikai) and Umaro Sabali (a.k.a. Máquina Motor), who satirise the Sintra Line, fictionalising it as their home countries of Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau, respectively. The Globos de Neve – Paris, Estação, Bruxelas – conceived by Sara Santos specifically for this exhibition are also about the Sintra Line. However, the conversation between these three artists will not be (only) about the Sintra Line, but rather about all the lines that connect different artistic expressions to these territories.
