Tatiana Macedo
Tatiana Macedo
Curated by: Delfim Sardo
Born in Lisbon (1981), Portuguese artist Tatiana Macedo has been working – with film, photography and sound – on the boundaries between artistic genres, with her interventions being marked by the notion of an expanded field in artistic practices. Using archive material and her own footage, she conjures up narrative sequences that are simultaneously political and poetic. Tatiana Macedo’s cinema is built along very rigorous lines, requiring viewers to focus their attention on significant details that generate meanings and amplify the repercussions of the images. For Culturgest, Tatiana Macedo made a film for an installation based on the architectural memory of an emblematic space in Porto at night time. Reflecting a memory of a striking architectural space and simultaneously feeding off its spectral and unreal condition, the project was conceived specifically for the space of Culturgest, which is itself also intensely designed and filled with symbolism. The narrative structure and the global possibility of this cinema comes from the architecture and material qualities of these spaces.
