Biography

Award-winning Portuguese-Cape Verdean director and producer. Her films feature powerful narratives and characters that are local on the one hand, but also have a strong global appeal. Her feature-length documentary “Cesária Évora” (2022) was distributed in France, the Netherlands and Portugal and is scheduled to premiere in cinemas in Italy, Germany and Brazil. It is available for streaming on AppleTV and HBOMax in select territories. She began her career in journalism, building a solid experience in television and print media, and has been distinguished with dozens of journalism awards, such as the Gazeta Award, the AMI Journalism Against Indifference Award and the UNESCO Journalism Human Rights & Integration Award. She has also published six books, including a novel. She is the founder of Carrossel Produções, a production company based in Lisbon.
